humility, gentleness, patience, love. Ephesians 4:2
VDC offers a wide variety of dance & tumbling classes for all ages. We begin students who are ready for the structured classroom environment as early as the age of 3 with a simple age appropriate class.
It is our mission to create a positive, loving and fun learning environment where students become aware of their own unique potential, always feeling self confident & inspired. We are pleased to provide certified, experienced adult instructors who stay current on the latest trends & teaching techniques.
All students are placed into their class(es) by the instructor, who has the final say in to which class a child is eligible for. Children progress at different rates and they need to be placed in the correct classes according to their ability. As our students achieve their goals we encourage them to strive harder, enabling them to reach their full potential.
For our younger dancers. Combination classed include 3 genres of introductory; ballet, tap & tumbling. This class will develop your child’s coordination as well as an understanding of dance concepts and terminology. Through this fun educational experience, students will learn to use dance as a creative means of self-expression. Our focus is on coordination and rhythm introduced in creative and imaginative ways. We will concentrate on vocabulary, alignment, proper execution of movement, memorization and independence through repetition. Combination classes are 1 hour.
Ballet & Lyrical
Ballet is the foundation of all dance forms and will maximize technique and longevity in a career of dance. It provides grace, poise, and technique needed to be proficient in all other areas of dance. Ballet classes will help dancers with posture, flexibility, fitness, balance, self-discipline, and self-confidence. Lyrical combines ballet and modern techniques with musical and emotional expression. With a strong focus on the contemporary technique. This class challenges dancers to use movement to interpret the music and express their emotions. Ballet & Lyrical classes run from 1/2 hour to 1 hour.
Tap & Clogging
We take an energetic approach to tap and clogging by working on using listening skills to hear specific rhythms and sounds. Tap is a great class for improving balance, coordination and rhythm. It also teaches students how to think and move quickly. We incorporate all styles of tap into our curriculum. In class we will use a wide variety of music. Once the students have mastered the easier concepts, we will move on to more challenging rhythms and steps. Tap is an excellent way to develop rhythmic skills and coordination. Clogging class will focus on using the downbeat of the music while using high energy. Clogging students will have shoes that have double taps. Tap class is a ½ hour class. Clogging is a 1/2 hour class with tap experience required.
Jazz class is another way to enhance your child's dance experience. In jazz we keep it fun and make sure that the moves are age appropriate. We work on a variety of different jazz movements including basic jazz techniques, leaps, turns and up to date combinations. In class we focus on sharp movements, expressing creativity and enhancing our students' strength. Jazz dance can take on many different style characteristics including street jazz, Broadway, contemporary and lyrical. We incorporate all these skills and more while using today's and yesterday's music. Jazz is a ½ hour class.
Hip Hop class remains very popular and ranks highly for our students. Both boys and girls are eager to take this class as it is has become one of the hottest dance crazes across the country. By integrating street style dancing with funk, students are taught styles similar to those seen on music videos, on television and in many of today's popular movies. We are sure that tasteful moves are used and music is screened to ensure all lyrics are appropriate. Hip Hop students learn a variety of routines throughout the year. Hip Hop is about personal style and expression, this high energy class can be taught to anyone with a passion to move so no dance experience is required. Hip Hop is ½ hour to 45 minutes.
Tumbling is centered on fundamental acrobatic technique to increase flexibility, strength, balance, coordination, endurance, timing, body awareness, self-discipline, and confidence. Classes focus on proper hand placement and body alignment with emphasis on the muscles and flexibility required to perform proper technique. Tumbling is 1/2 hour to 45 minutes.
a high energy class consisting of sharp arm movements, clean formations and jazz technique. The influences of jazz, jazz funk and hip hop with the use of poms and sharp lines makes this a unique combination for dancers. Pom class is 1/2 hour by teacher invitation.
Pointe is only open to dancers who have mastered the necessary level of ballet and have been approved by our instructors. Pointe is a 30 minute class and is similar to other ballet classes in terms of focus and discipline. The difference would be the student wears pointe shoes (ballet shoes with a hard full soled shank and a boxed toe) so that the dancer may go fully onto pointe. This class is for our more advanced ballet dancer. Not everyone is made for pointe class. Ankle and foot bone structure, stage of growth and strength must all be considered.
We offer any of our classes to our male students. Boys are included in our co-ed classes.
